A poster shop at Pier 39

A poster shop at Pier 39

Well hello again, and welcome to another installment of the Daily Honeymoon Update.

It’s late’ish, and I’m heading to bed soon so we can get some Z’s. In fact, Heather is sleeping on the couch next to me as I type. For some reason we have a disproportionate sleep need, so I often find myself being up later, and earlier, than my wife. Mostly a bummer if you ask me, but I guess it gives me time to do things like this blog, eh?

So, we awoke and had a relatively leisurely morning at the Hostel. I think we were supposed to be out at 11, but we didn’t mosey out until easily 11:15 or 11:30. Of course it wasn’t a big deal, but we certainly weren’t rushing ourselves to get out the door. From there, we had thought to go north towards Point Reyes Park (or something like that) to see some wildlife, but first we decided to stop by the Wharf to explore the area. Heather has been through the vicinity quite a bit, so she knew what to expect, but I hadn’t the foggiest, so while she continued to check in on what I might like to do, I continued to just stare around to see all the variety from street vendors to miscellaneous shops in the area.

My favorite parts of the wharf were the sea lion haul out, and a set of street performers doing some breakdancing. They were incredible. I took video (posted tomorrow, I’m guessing), and a couple hundred pictures of their 10-minute show. After they finished, and after a bite at the Bistro, we figured we’d head towards Pt. Reyes, but first I wanted to stop and pick up a remote trigger for my camera. I took a look around at the Wharf area stores, but couldn’t find anything.

We set out in the car to track down the local “Discount Camera” shop. After about 30 minutes of weaving in and out of thick downtown traffic, dodging cyclists, being uncertain of which lane was legal or not, or heck, even being sure that I was going the right way down the road (I was), I decided to give up on the goal of the photo store, and just get out of town. Heather & I were both a bit frazzled at the stresses of not being able to take any left turns while down town (who’d have thought?), and it was just better to get out and away.

Instead of heading north, we went south to visit some of Heather’s extended family just a few miles away who live near the Stanford campus. It was a great evening getting some relaxing socializing time, a tasty steak dinner, and even a visit to the local mac store (my first time visiting one ever). We took a walk through the Stanford campus, and needless to say, it’s no UAS. 🙂  I enjoyed the architecture, but missed the naturally occurring trees all throughout the property. The scale of the Stanford campus is staggering – Jim informed us that it is the 2nd largest (area wise) campus in the world with nearly 9000 acres. Woah.

Tomorrow we’ll be in Carmel near Monterey. The full Wildes crew will be in town, and we’ll enjoy the time hanging out in the sun with them.

Also, for those of you who are interested in the pictoral view of the day, shots from the day are available after the jump.

Wow. What a day.

Up early to get on the road and meet the rafting guides… we got in the water around 9:30, and it was a blast!  I’ve got a few videos from us on the rapids (thanks to Taylor for loaning me the camera!)

The big rapids? Right here:

The day was a blast. We had a good time with Brian, our guide, and David, Todd, Mary & Heather.

Afterwards, we got to go find the OARS hq to track down heather’s vest, and then we were off to Point Montara Lighthouse Hostel. It’s a pretty cool area, and the shots help illustrate the magic.

Videos from the trip will be posted at http://youtube.com/juneauwedding/
